I See You

Screen Shot 2019-11-02 at 13.47.32.pngDescription

I See You is a powerful true story of many facets; of transformation, discovery, denial, hope, fear… and ultimately, of love. A reluctant father comes to the realization that Vito, his son, is a child with special needs. He hears the words spoken by his son’s teachers – and by a range of specialists, who try to explain that Vito is developmentally challenged – but hearing is rarely the same as listening. Denial is quick to set in, and Vito’s father buries himself in his work: a distraction from a truth which is increasingly difficult to ignore: his son is on the autism spectrum, and the path they must take together will not be the easiest of roads to walk.

Vito’s autism leads his father, Slaven, into a corner from which he must ultimately escape. His home life is put in a perilous position, and mask upon mask is worn in order to deal with the struggles of denial. However, Slaven comes to the understanding that life deals us the hand we have to play, and his role as a father must come before his pride. His journey is one he cannot walk alone, and a trickle of hope slowly turns into a wave of empathy, acceptance, and parental love.

Walking onwards with his son at one side and his Christian faith at the other, Slaven sets out on the path that God has laid before him. The challenges they face together may not be easy, but the lessons they teach lead Slaven to be the man his son deserves. As they march forwards, dealing with disabilities, the struggle of parenting, the overcoming of prejudices, a truth is reached: Vito is a blessing, a gift, and one with the power to enrich the lives of those who love him,

This transformative memoir offers:
● A unique insight into the realities of parenting a special needs child

● A journey of discovery and parental love

● An honest and frank understanding of autism

● A Christian perspective on the struggles of acceptance

Lucinda Mallows visits a group of gypsies camping out at the edge of town. The townsfolk are suspicious of the new arrivals but Lucinda is determined to show a friendly face by bringing them some baked goods. While she is there she is warned of an approaching unkown danger coming for her…..

There was a soul wrenching scream.

The figure that reached the door was a mass of flame and smoke. Lucinda saw the face, wide eyed with terror and pain as the balaclava melted and stuck to his face. Kisses of hungry flames engulfed his eyeballs until theyy sizzled and popped. The blind figure staggered away from the doorway, flailing his arms like a fiery windmill in a futile attempt to snuff out the flames.

An indescribable incandesence, like a supernova, consumed the figure. The unearthly brighness obiterated all his features.

I usually start off with a description except there isn’t one because I didn’t get it from Amazon and it doesn’t appear to be for sale.

I came across it by accident and you know how every now and again you come across a little gem. Well, this is it.

I visited the author’s website and as I was reading, one of those annoying boxes dropped down and obscured my view. It invited me to join the newsletter with an offer of a free book. Being a sucker for a free book, I joined.

I know of the author, have spoken to her but never read any of hers. They are mostly Science Fiction/Fantasy stories, books I tend to sreet away from as a rule.

On inpulse I filled in the details and was invited to download the free book. I didn’t even see the cover. It was a short read and having just finished two short reads on the run, decided to start on this one.

What a cracking story! I absolutely loved it!

It was set on a planet where people were forced to leave earth mainly because of terrorist attacks.  scientists had also discovered transportation. Now, if you’re not a fan of this genre your eyes are probably glazing over. But stop, keep reading!

The story is set in a bar and Deak is the bartender. Real people, real situations, and a message in the story that will resonate.

Never give up hope.

Deak is in a deep depression and had let himself go, thus not seeing things as they really were. There are people who care for him, he just doesn’t recognise them. Just when we think we are going to see the last of him, something happens that changes his outlook on life.

Ah, it was just a great story, I loved it!  Hope is such. great word. Without hope, where would we be?

If you want to read this story, you’ll have to sign up for the newsletter and that really isn’t a bad thing. If her newsletters are anything like her blog posts, they will be worth it.

This is the website, I urge you take a look and give it a read!

Karen’s Book Buzz Review

I’ve always said I am not a fan of horror but find myself reading the odd one or two. The last ones I read were also Electric Eclectic books. Because most of them are shorter reads, it tempts me to give them a try.  I have’t been disappointed yet.

A Flash of Horror is another excellent book. Simply because the style of writing was easy to read and the flashes of horror really laid out the scary side.  There are twelve stories in all. Some I’d read in a previous collection and still enjoyed second time around.

Each story was short, just a few pages long and often with a twist in the tail, something you don’t expect, then wham! There is it, the explanation – usually nothing like I imagined. Cleverly written, the stories don’t say much, they leave the inbetween bits out for your imagination to do the work, and it truely does. Don’t read it at night!

Having read a few stories of late that were short and often difficult to get into as I tried to work out what they were saying, where it was going, and if it was worth carrying on. It was so refreshing to read straight forward, straight to the point writing that was clear and easy to understand.

You will finish this book in no time, so it’s recommended for a journey, or the hour to relax into for some me time.

A Flash of Horror

This book is part of the Electric Eclectic brand of books and they are all shorter reads. Particularly good if you love reading but don’t have a lot of time.  It’s also a good way to find new authors.

Ice, the nineth book in the series!

Screen Shot 2019-09-18 at 11.24.01

Screen Shot 2019-09-13 at 11.00.07Description

Thirty years after Pseudosynths were produced as robot slaves, they are now revered by the human race as heroes. Humanity is living a dream existence side-by-side their new artificial intelligence counterparts, Robokopias, which look, act, and talk like anyone or anybody you choose. Only the Pseudosynths remember the time shift to set the planet on the correct course in 2075 and the warning that went along with it before the Robokopias were produced. Why is this warning so important?

In Ice, if you or one of your family members die, it is your choice is to have your thoughts and memories transferred into one of these ‘Robokopias’ so you can continue to live. Almost a billion Robokopias live, work, and play next to humans around the planet with the ‘Ten Commandments of Robotics’ keeping them in line. These commandments cannot be modified, erased, or overridden. Nothing can go wrong, ever.

In the wildest artificial intelligence story that is not too far away according to experts, America finds itself wishing that they had never heard of the word “robot” as millions of Robokopias are purposely turned against their owners by a strange pyramid that may not be of this world.

Join Jaesa, Ray Nelson, General Cooper, Athana, the Xanthes, and some surprise artificial intelligence characters with a brand new cast of unique Robokopia characters who will join the fight in the most chilling and icy Pseudoverse novel. This is a novel filled with fantastic technology. Harmony’s stolen MOTT time transference plans and new pair of glasses called “Looking Glass” that allows you to look one hour into the future are used against the human race. Could this new technology eventually be used to right the wrongs done to the American people?

If you loved the Pseudoverse Series novels, which pit humans against robotics and artificial intelligence, you will love Ice and the follow-up novel, Fire. Once this ride starts, it does not stop, and we guarantee you will not be able to put it down. This “coming to a life near you soon” saga, which is positively and negatively prophesied by hundreds of scientists, transhumanists, scholars, theologians, and robotic engineers, is a chilling reminder of the upcoming “Singularity.” Which side will you be on once the war starts?

“A toast to a brave new world and the future it brings,” Hollyann smiled, raising her glass up as three of the four scientists’ clanked glasses with her.

“Ah, the ever indelible and misunderstood, Adelous Huxley,” Chilton said, staring into Hollyann’s eyes, “are we the Alphas?”

“Yes, outstanding Mr. Blaze. You are schooled in the ways of the literary world very well.” Hollyann told him, wrapping her tongue around the rim of her wine glass.

“I don’t give a fuck about Huxley!” M.J. blurted out at the top of his lungs, “I must admit you are one gorgeous whore, but I don’t do work for Russian assholes who kidnap me. Where is my wife by the way?” M.J. gave her an evil stare huffing and puffing, refusing to acknowledge her toast looking away from her.

“She is at home safe with you,” Hollyann told him, smiling. The bartender poured her another glass of wine.

“You replaced me, didn’t you, bitch?” M.J. was red-faced and angrier than a nest full of whacked hornets on a hot Georgia day. “I don’t work for your dumbass, you cunt, and I am not about to start for some artificial intelligence you bow down to. I am a teacher, and I will be dammed if I start lying in bed with dogs who assisted the very assholes responsible for the global massacre thirty years ago. They will find out that is not me in Georgia and the cops will begin a massive manhunt. You and your people are nothing but primates and animals, and I hope they put a bullet between those baby blues of yours. Better yet maybe they’ll take your head off and put it on ice for a while.”

Taking a huge swig of beer M.J. was sweating. He was waiting for a response from Hollyann, but none came his way. “Thanks to Professor Chilton Blaze no one is searching or looking for anyone in this tower or this compound including the several thousand technicians, engineers, and rocket scientists working here except Miss Reynedropolous, who cannot be imitated precisely or replaced due to the hundreds of Transhuman circuits running through her incredible body. Professor Blaze knows how easy these replacements can be duplicated and put into place over six weeks, or perhaps four weeks, don’t you?”

Why are rocket scientists here in Madagascar? Reyne thought hard about those words. “

Yes, she is correct,” Chilton, replied as the three scientists stared at him for answers. “I had no knowledge of any of this, but due to Robotica’s NDA, I currently cannot share with you what I know about the Robokopias. I am bound by Robotica’s legal obligations.”

“He is telling the truth. Now, I would like to share something with all of you,” Hollyann told them pulling a modified non-standard Vidset out of a pocket from her dress. “This is something that the Russian scientists came up with from their MKUltra trials during the 60s and 70s.”

Swiping a couple of screens, her fingers were dialing a circular icon on her home page. She did not attempt to hide the Vidset from any of them as M.J. dropped his beer on the floor. It smashed on the tile in pieces. Cold-brew flew in all directions, including Reyne’s dress and Chilton’s pants.

All of them backed up as M.J. became stiff as a board. Blood dripped from his nostrils. Trying to wipe the blood off his face, his hands were suddenly paralyzed as if he were in the middle of a stroke. He pissed down his own leg creating a yellow puddle on the white tile floor around his shoes.

Doctor Suleka Matthew screamed aloud. “Stop it!” She held her face in shock, not knowing what to do.

This is a collection of short stories featuring Cassie, who is sassy, quirky and sometimes doesn’t know her own powers.

Excerpt from The Slap

part of The Adventures of Cassidy Newbold.

It only took a moment, all happening as I clasped his hand. I let go as if I’d been stung and my head straightened. Gunner stared at me. I’m the calmest person in the world, but at that moment, I felt like a mad woman full of rage and unable to do anything with it. For a moment I saw his eyes flicker as he registered it.

There was a fizz in the air like an electrical current bouncing from the painted walls. Everything seemed to go very still and silent. Energy like I’d never felt before coursed through me.

What the hell was going on in this man’s mind?

Both he and I took a step backwards and the lights flickered on and off. The cell door banged shut and from the corner of my eye, I saw Seb move involuntary to the wall as if pinned there.

Ronnie Gunner looked terrified and shrank back, his legs hit the bunk as he sat heavily.

The urge to fasten my hands around his neck and squeeze was very strong. I’d never had such a guttural feeling before, but this man was like no one I had ever met.
