In true crime noir style, two hard-boiled detectives investigate the apparently accidental death of a wealthy older man. Found lying dead at the bottom of the stairs in his expensive home, the only other person at home was his wife. While it looks like an accident, the detectives smell a rat. But, even when the crime is solved and the bad guys are wrapped up in neat packages, the story isn’t over.
Karen Book Buzz Review
I was back in to the twenties/thirties with this story and it had real atmosphere. I loved the way the detectives spoke and related to each other and the victims. I also loved how the author used the book title in the story and it comes pretty fast as the detective, Lou, looked at the murder scene. He and his sidekick, Joe, investigate the murder of Mrs Foster’s husband. The evidence is all there, and like the detectives we are working out ‘who dun it.’
As the reader, I found I more or less had it ‘figured out,’ except there was a nice little twist at the end which took my focus in a completely different direction.
A clever bit of writing and an interesting tale.
This book is part of the Electric Eclecticbrand of books and they are all shorter reads. Particularly good if you love reading but don’t have a lot of time. I read this in an evening. It is also a good way to find new authors.
If you are on Goodreads, why not add it to your To Read Shelf.
As Electric Eclectic books are designed to introduce you to new others, I present Carved Wooden Heart by the author. She can weave a good tale and all of them so different.
