Karen’s Book Buzz Review
I received this some time ago in the author’s newsletter but, hadn’t got around to reading it. Having just read his latest, Dead On Your Feet, I dug this one out – buried in my email! I was not at all disappointed in a small book. I don’t really know what it is a prequel to – whether a particular book or the whole series. It didn’t really matter, anyway.
This felt like a full novel, although obviously cut down by not going into too many details and having too many suspects for the murder. I liked it for that. It was succinct and straight to the point and a big book masquerading as a small book, if you know what I mean. It had everything you would want from a novel – crime, investigation and smaller characters who played a big part.
The story was set in the hills of Snowdonia when two bodies are found. DI Ian Drake comes along with all the peculiar quirks from his previous books. It was interesting to read that this was from before he left his wife and with his previous sergeant. I know understand why he later found her so irritating, the sergeant, not the wife!
So, all in all, another great read and once again this is a stand alone and you don’t have to read any of his other books if you don’t want. Like me, you will probably find that you do want to!
